THE INSURED – METHOD 1 - Pick up your house phone or cell phone. Call the customer service telephone number listed on your bill. If you’ve thrown the bill out, borrow your spouse’s ID card, turn it over and copy the customer service number listed on the back. When the Customer Service Rep. comes on the phone, order your card. METHOD 2 – Call your broker. Tell him or her to order it for you, that you have been on “hold” with the carrier for 106 minutes and you are very late for Pilates.
THE BROKER – METHOD 1 - Pick up your office phone or your cell phone. Call the customer service number listed on your commission statement. Have the insured’s I.D. number handy and recite it to the customer service rep. when he or she comes on the phone. When ordering the card, have it sent to the insured’s home, not their place of business. METHOD 2 - Call the General Agent. Tell them to order the card for you, that you have been on “hold” with the carrier for 81 minutes, that hey don’t pay you enough commission to do this nonsense and that you are very late for your 1:15 golf tee-time. (For those of you who don’t golf, you may substitute a gym workout or shopping)
THE GENERAL AGENT – METHOD 1 – Pick up your office phone or cell phone when the broker calls you, tell them you’ll take care of it, hang up the phone and leave for your 1:15 golf tee-time! (General Agents may NOT substitute. You have to play golf!) METHOD 2 - Call the carrier and actually order the card on behalf of your broker and their client. While you’re at it, order 100 cases of directories to be delivered to the broker’s office and the insured’s place of business. They’ll never ask you to order anything for them ever again!
THE CARRIER – METHOD 1 – Get the cards out quicker than 5 to 7 “business” days. For Gods sakes, they’re little pieces of plastic, not the Magna Carta. It shouldn’t take so long to get them printed and sent. METHOD 2 – Eliminate I.D. cards and go on the honor system that these people truly are insured. This will save enough money to pay for the broker’s and General Agent’s round of golf at 1:15.
